How IRPF works

IRPF is Spain\'s progressive income tax. Taxable base = gross − Seguridad Social contributions − a €2,000 reducción por rendimientos del trabajo. The 6-bracket scale applies, then a €5,550 personal allowance is credited at the first bracket rate. Autonomous communities add or subtract up to ~2 percentage points per bracket — check your CCAA.

Spain salary FAQ

Why do the national IRPF results differ from my real payslip?
Spain splits IRPF between a state portion and an autonomous community portion. Madrid, Andalucía, and Murcia apply lower community rates, while Cataluña, Valencia, and Asturias apply higher ones. Your real take-home can differ by ±15% from this national calculator. We use a unified national scale; check your CCAA for exact rates.
What are the 2026 IRPF brackets?
Six combined brackets: 19% (up to €12,450), 24%, 30%, 37%, 45% (€60,000–€300,000), and 47% (above €300,000). Savings income (interest, dividends, capital gains) uses a separate scale: 19%/21%/23%/27%/28%.
How much Seguridad Social do I pay as an employee?
6.35% total: 4.7% contingencias comunes + 1.55% desempleo + 0.10% FOGASA. Capped at the 2026 base máxima of €59,059.80/year. Employer pays 29.9% on top (contingencias + unemployment + professional training + injury insurance).
Is the Beckham Law worth it?
For qualifying expats earning above ~€65,000 net, yes. It applies a flat 24% rate on Spanish-source employment income up to €600,000 (47% above), for up to 6 years. Crucially, foreign-source income remains tax-free (except certain dividends). Eligibility: not tax-resident in Spain for 5 years pre-move, employment-based relocation or director of entity.
What is the mínimo personal y familiar?
A tax-free personal allowance: €5,550/year base (more if you're over 65 or have dependants). It's credited at the first-bracket rate (19%) — worth ~€1,055/year in tax savings. The calculator applies this automatically in standard mode.
